Discover the Icy Elegance of the Formex Essence Space Glacier

April 24th 2025

Independent Swiss brand Formex has carved out a unique place in the watchmaking world. Unlike many boutique manufacturers, Formex benefits from a shared ownership structure that grants it access to top-tier Swiss production resources, including Dexel for components and Cadranor for high-end dials.

Crafted from the Stars

The latest launch, the Essence Space Glacier, expands the popular Essence collection with a fresh celestial twist. These COSC-certified automatic timepieces—available in 39mm and 43mm sizes—feature dials cut from solid Muonionalusta meteorite, known for its captivating natural crystalline pattern. The meteorite is silver-plated and coated with multiple layers of translucent ice blue lacquer, preserving its texture while adding a cool-toned luster.

Details that Define Quality

Unlike standard layered dials, Formex’s approach involves using a single slab of meteorite with the dial feet soldered directly to the back. This allows the brand to shape a clean beveled date window right into the material itself—a feat requiring both artistry and precision.

Formex enhances readability with black dial markings, Super-LumiNova BGW9 on hands and indices, and a well-balanced layout. The signature case suspension system, brushed and polished stainless steel case, and titanium inner core make these watches as comfortable as they are robust.

A Limited Production Masterpiece

Both size options are priced at $1,870 (with strap) or $1,990 (on bracelet). Though described as “production editions,” only 100 pieces of each variant will be made—suggesting rarity with the possibility of future availability. For collectors seeking unique materials and refined Swiss engineering, the Space Glacier delivers on all fronts.
